As long as you let the mask sit for a while (about ten-fifteen minutes ...unless is drys hard- like an egg mask) then you can wash it off. It will not ';wash off the effectiveness'; because the mask has already soaked into your skin. That is the point of a mask. Cetaphil is a good soap to use, but any regular FACE soap will do.
