for acne?
i heard taking 5-6 ibuprofen and mixing them with water to make a face mask helps reducs the size of pimples?
anyone tried it?Does the ibuprofen face mask work?
Its not ibuprofen ... its regular plain uncoated aspirin. I've used it for years, and its a great exfoliater and helps get rid of pimples (aspirin has salycylic acid in it - the same stuff in pimple medications)

So to actually answer your question, YES.
ReplyDeleteIbuprofen is preferable for this application.
They are both anti-inflammatory, meaning they both inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX1-COX2) as their mechanism of action.
However:
Ibuprofen is absorbed better through the skin
Unlike aspirin, which breaks down in solution, ibuprofen is stable, and thus ibuprofen can be available in topical gel form which is absorbed through the skin
In fact, Ibuprofen is sometimes used for the treatment of acne, because of its anti-inflammatory properties and has been sold in Japan in topical form for adult acne
aspirin is less effective at treating acute skin irritation
aspirin works well for dull, throbbing pain; it is ineffective for pain caused by acute skin irritation.
The concentration of ibuprofen absorbed by the skin will work much better than an equal amount of aspirin.
The maximum dose of aspirin (1 g) provides weaker pain relief than an intermediate dose of ibuprofen (400 mg), and this relief does not last as long.
ibuprofen has the best risk-benefit ratio
as a side note: Culinary mushrooms, like Maitake, may be able to partially inhibit COX-1 and COX-2 and reduce inflammation.
